Charles "Chic" Shaver

Charles “Chic” Shaver’s ministry in the Church of the Nazarene is extensive and powerful. It has included the planting and pastoring of two home churches, full-time evangelism, and preaching in camp meetings and at all 10 Nazarene academic institutions in the USA and Canada. Dr. Shaver has conducted over 700 preaching missions and preached at the headquarters of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. He has taught evangelism in Johannesburg, South Africa; Manila, Philippines; Seoul, Korea; and Moscow, Russia. Presently he preaches across the USA and Canada as a commissioned evangelist.

Dr. Shaver has degrees from Dartmouth College, Nazarene Theological Seminary, and Fuller Seminary. He has written 11 books, and his BASIC BIBLE STUDIES series has sold over 670,000 copies in English and are used interdenominationally.

In 2000, Dr. Shaver retired after 30 years of full-time teaching at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, where he served as a professor of evangelism. In December 2003, he concluded his ministry as associate pastor of Outreach and Evangelism at First Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, where he had served since 1974. From February to May of 2005, he served in a four month specialized assignment as Guest Pastor of Outreach Ministries at Spring Branch Church of the Nazarene in Houston, Texas. In 2007, he led an intensive, six-week, evangelism training for all pastors of the Alaska District Church of the Nazarene.

In 2008, Dr. Shaver was presented the Distinguished Service Award by Nazarene Missions International and Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene for his commitment and passion for missions, which is evident in his BASIC BIBLE STUDIES series. The Albanian translation of this series (the 50th language of translation for this series) makes these the most translated pieces of literature in the Church of the Nazarene. In December 2009, Beacon Hill Press released revised publications of Dr. Shaver as a one year discipleship emphasis titled, THE JOURNEY. This series includes: Basic Bible Studies for the New and Growing Christians, Who Is This Jesus, The Mission of Jesus, and Basic Bible Studies for the Spirit Filled and Sanctified Life.

He and his wife, Nancy, have three children: Rachel, Paul, and Miriam.
